About
The Regent is Murwillumbah's much-loved Art Deco cinema on Brisbane Street, built in 1947 and at the heart of the town's cultural life for more than 75 years. After a 1983 fire, the former stalls became a supermarket and a roughly 300-seat cinema was created in the old circle, which keeps much of the original charm and character. Digital projection and 5.1 surround sound were installed in 2012.
Today it programmes the best of international arthouse cinema alongside selected Hollywood releases, with plenty of family films during school holidays. It's grown into a living cultural venue too, hosting live music, choral performances and community celebrations, and the circle foyer now houses the box office along with a bar and cafe.
