The Imperial Hotel — known to everyone as "the Impy" — is one of Murwillumbah's most recognisable buildings, a striking pink Art Deco pub on Murwillumbah Street in the centre of town. First opened in 1931, it's a standout example of the region's Art Deco heritage and sits a short walk from the M|Arts Precinct, the Tweed Regional Museum and the river. The venue runs a public bar, a bistro serving Australian pub dishes (with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options on request) and a bottle shop.
Live music plays every weekend, there's a weekday happy hour and regular community events, plus a billiards table to pass the time. Upstairs are 29 hotel rooms — a mix of single, queen and superior queen — with ensuites, kitchenettes, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and in-room Wi-Fi, including one ground-floor accessible room. It works equally well as a counter-meal local, a live-music night out or an overnight stay in the middle of town.
A drink in a heritage Art Deco pub, weekend live music, a bistro meal in town, and a central overnight stay in one of the upstairs hotel rooms.
